Question: Assume that you are the CEO of a Multinational Corporation. What are some of the key Competencies will you expect from your HR Director. Why? Answer: International Human Resources In order to get success in the international market and to successfully operate the business effectively, there is a vital role of the human resource management department of the firm. There are different ways and the key competencies that are used by the HR director for managing the business. In addition to this, diversity management is also one of the major key competencies that should be followed by the HR director to manage the business at international market (Arnold, Randall, 2010). It is because different countries have their different culture and due to this, for every firm, it is essential to formulate the all business and marketing operation according to the existing culture. It is the only way that helps the firm to sustain in the market and to develop a good base of the customers. So, if the HR manager of the firm has the diversity management competency then firm can handle the business and manage employees within the organisation (Bahuguna et al., 2009). In the same con cern of this, the Hofstedes culture dimensions international theory sates that there is high culture difference in the countries is the major issues for the firm to successful manage the business and due to this, manage the work place diversity is quite essential for the firms at international level. The reason in this is that at global level, the workplace diversity management provides the competitive advantage and makes enable the firm to perform better without facing any hurdle in the business (Bennett, Ho, 2014). Because of this, it can be illustrated that diversity management is the key competency that should be followed by HR director. At the same time, problem solving and the conflict management is also a key competency that should also be followed by the HR director to manage the business in international level. It is because as per the increasing level of the competition, different steps and the ways are used by the firm at internal level that may be the cause of arising depute among the employees and affect the work. So, problem solving and conflict management skills are helpful for HR director to solve these types of issue and keep track the working process of the firm (Chen, Huang, 2009). Additionally, as per the cultural context theory, the HR director should have the knowledge about the communication way of the local people, which is essential to consider by the firm to manage the business. For instance, the way of communication in China, Japan, etc is non- verbal, while in UK, USA, etc people like to use the verbal communication. So, it can be determined that for successful business management at internat ional level, the HR director should have the knowledge about the high and low context of culture. In addition, HR director should also have the some other different skills like training and development, management of corporate governance, compensation and benefits, negotiation, etc. The reason in this is that all skills make easy the HR director to perform better in other countries effectively and to grab the market opportunities (Chmiel, 2011).
