Deborah Tanen - The Truth About Sex Lies and Conversation Cause and Effect Essay SecretsIn 'Deborah Tanen - The Truth About Sex Lies and Conversation Cause and Effect Essay Secrets', author Deborah Tanen defends her job-hunting advice to article writers: 'Journalists and authors need to use words and phrases that tell the reader about the reader. They need to write as they talk.' A typical article, according to Tanen, must always include 'the truth about sex lies and conversation cause and effect'.The article, however, Debra Tanen, against Jodi L. Scott, claims that her former boss, Deborah Tanen, being a candidate for the University of New Hampshire (UNH) has 'failed in her attempt to bring home the bacon'. Tanen is quoted as saying that Scott 'has been talking about sex in the open when she should be talking about the real world issues that affect real people.'Tanen's employer, UNH, meanwhile, after having listed Tanen's allegations on their website and stated that they have launch ed an internal investigation, states that no charges are expected to be filed against Tanen. The university feels that Tanen has committed slander and therefore, has failed to defend herself against the accusation. Meanwhile, Tanen states that the matter has also raised her level of self-esteem. 'I don't know what else to do except to continue to say what's true about sex lies and conversation cause and effect,' she said. The charges against Tanen, however, Tanen said, were not a reflection of her capabilities but of the character of her former boss. Tanen, who was fired from her position after her protests, said, '[Scott] had made outrageous statements in the past and I had never questioned her sincerity or intelligence, let alone her competence in this situation.'Tanen continued by stating that she was not even seeking employment before being dismissed from her post as an associate professor at the university, which she said was based on Scott's baseless accusations. Tanen also not ed that her firing was done for political reasons. Tanen cited her disfavor with Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and was even interviewed for a government position, but was still unable to secure employment despite qualifying. She further added that Scott used language and actions that made her 'uncomfortable' as a way to boost her own political standing.Tanen concluded by criticizing the university for its lack of support and cooperation. She said that the university is a 'political incubator' that doesn't care about the needs of its employees. In the meantime, Tanen reiterated that what Scott has done is 'absolutely wrong' and it's unfortunate that she was fired for such actions. She pointed out that they were hired because they had the right attitude, as evidenced by their graduation from the UNH's undergraduate program and their working history with UNH, citing their previous roles as copy editors and writers for various programs.Tanen stated that the university was totally wrong t o fire her on the basis of her opinions, which were based on facts, although Scott had failed to defend herself before the administration. According to Tanen, the behavior that she is criticizing is the same type of behavior she had witnessed from former employees at the university, so it was not one-sided.
